Is Alex in "Everything is Illuminated" by Jonathan Safron Foer gay?
I am in class and my friend is reading it for one of his classes, and he believes that to be true due to the fact that he says "If I were to inform my Father, for example, about how I comprehend love, and who I desire to love, he would kill me, and this is no idiom." (pg. 241) and he says that the character lied about seeing lots of women to his father, and he had a strong level of communication with Jonathan toward the end of the book.
I haven't read it personally, but he and another girl are discussing it and they just wanted to know what the web thinks. Thanks!
Yes - I believe I got that impression while reading the book. But, ask always, art is in the eye of the beholder. You should search for interviews with the author. Maybe he reveals it.
