Desktop Scratch
What else do I need; building a desktop from scratch?
Have I gotten everything I need?
Give me some advise please as this is my first time building a desktop.
Motherboard: DFI LanParty DK P45-T2RS+
Processor: Core 2 Duo E8400 OC @ 3.6Ghz
GFX Card: HIS HD 4850
RAM: Corsair XMS2 800Mhz 4-4-4-15 4GB
Hard Disk: Hitachi Deskstar 7200RPM 1TB 32MB Cache
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64
For the chassis, is a mid tower enough?
As for the PSU, how many voltage do I need? Thinking of 460V?
What do you think of DFI mobos, I heard they are quite old and have lots of problem - but google says otherwise.
How many cooling fans do I need? eg. Do I need a CPU cooler, GPU cooler, RAM cooler for everything? ![]()
Which brand of ATI HD 4850 do you recommend? (HIS, Gainward, Gigabyte, Asus, Palit, Sapphire)
Many thanks to all of you.
That board natively supports DDR2 1066 ram. I'd use DDR2 1066 for crisper performance. If you plan on clocking at 3.6GHz I suggest you go with more than the stock fan/heatsink cuz the cpus gonna warm up, especially when gaming. A mid tower case will work fine. Need really good airflow thru the case as the 4850s run hot. Air coming in the front and out the back. As far a the PSU goes you need a 450watt PSU minimum to run a system with an ATI 4850. Since thats a Crossfire board I suggest you go with a 650watt Corsair PSU. That way, if you add a second 4850 down the road you won't have to buy another bigger PSU. Lan Party's a nice board. Rounded cables and a floppy with SATA and Raid drivers come with it. You can use a CD or pendrive for the SATA and Raid drivers with Vista so if you don't put a floppy drive in your build you can use another rig with a floppy drive and take the drivers off the floppy and put them on a disc or pendrive to use during your OS install.
