Hard drive question? ?
I'm not really into computers or anything and i still want my old system but i need more storage space i recently saw a 500gb hard drive on ebay but will my system recognize it my system is a Compaq Evo D510 series and i know it's a little old but i feel comfortable with it just tell me what the deal with this hard drive business or whatever please explain.
one thing you must check, whether your motherboard takes sata.
S-ATA = Serial Advanced Technology Attachment newer and faster NOT on all boards. Uses really slim cables.
P-ATA or IDE = Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment is the standard fitting for most older motherboards and is slower than sata. IDE cables are flat ribbon cables, usually grey.
Your computer WILL recognise it, but if you are using it to replace your old drive, you will need to reformat it and reinstall windows/linux.
If your using it as a complementary disk, you will need to reformat, but you will be prompted when you try and access it post installation, and it is painless.
