Why is skin bleaching so shamelessly promoted in Arabia/Middle East?
When I traveled to UAE, at supermarkets I saw 6 foot shelves stacked with skin bleaching cream, called "White Perfection", "Light Skin Protectors" and other kinds of nonsense. And these creams came from L'Oreal, Maybelline, Olay, etc many companies that don't even advertise the same product in the States.
The adverts showcased and Indian, Arabian appearing woman with significantly light skin. And even the makeup they carried where 7 different shades of ivory as if to say darker skin tones aren't acceptable. Thankfully many people didn't purchase those items, but why is skin bleaching seen as "normal" in the middle east?
it is believed the lighter your skin the more attractive you are.... a reversal of the west
because it is only the poor manual workers who have to work out in the sun, whilst the rich are inside keeping cool
why does it bother you? it doesn't damage their skin.
it's propbably better than our fascination with cancer priming ourselves in the west and fake tanning
