Sharp horrible wrist pain?

I never hurt my wrist ... but lately the pain has been going on and off. Today, down the stairs, my hand slid down the rail and when I pulled away, a sharp pain hit my wrist. The pain went away (I can move my hand freely), but when I sat down and used my hand to help me get up, a horrible Sharp pain just erupted in my wrist. The pain is at the base of my wrist (under the palm) slightly to the left, which is in line with my thumb. It is extremely excruciating pain, I can not ask any pressure. I can move freely and make things, but when I do things that put pressure (by using for me the balance, do push ups, etc.) it's painful! ps I play the piano and violin a lot ... And other repetitive movements. that affect it?
