unlocking iphone, so you do not need to use the data plane but still using cingular as a carrier?
I am currently a cingular user, and I just want to use surf the web when I have wi-fi, since my school has wifi covered everywhere. I do not want to get a touch because I have enough things in my pocket already. Also, I am part of a family plan so I do not think I can be the added line and still have the data package. So does anyone know how to unlock the iphone so I can not use the data plan?
You can unlock it by using ZiPhone, AppSnapp, or anything like that. Look them up in Google. If you have an older iPhone, with version 1.1.1, just go to http://jailbreakme.com on your iPhone and it will unlock it for you automatically. Then download something from sources that allows you to go to a different provider. If you unlock it and stay with AT&T, you won't be able to not have the data plan. I recommend using Verizon instead. I'm not sure how to sign your iPhone up for Verizon though. This is not recommended if you don't have an iPhone yet because when you're in the Apple Store, they have to set up an AT&T contract with you.
